Moving Business Location - More than just a headache!

Some valuable points to consider when moving a business

The most important thing when moving business locations is forward planning. By planning ahead you can elevate some of the stresses you may ultimately face! Leaving everything to the last minute could cause you more than just a headache, it could cost you money.... Your Money!

Here are some important considerations to take into account when moving:

1, Can you take your existing BT numbers with you?
Its surprising just how many businesses naturally assume they can keep their BT telephone numbers no matter where they move to .... Wrong! You can only keep your numbers if you are moving to an address within the same BT exchange that the existing number is held. Move 3 miles away and the chances are you will require a new telephone number. That's why Non Geographical Numbers like 0845 make good business sense! They allow you to move anywhere in the UK and still keep them all important numbers that everybody knows.

2, Have you notified everybody about your proposed move?
There can be an army of people that you will need to notify about your move, including customers, suppliers, service providers, banks, royal mail, etc... Then of course there's the stationary that will need to be changed (headed paper, business cards, brochures) Also if you have a company vehicle that is covered in advertising, you will need to change the sign writing. Website's will have to be updated, business directory listings amended, the list is quite daunting!

3, Do the new premises have the services that I require?
This is important and can save on additional and unnecessary costs. You need to make sure that there are either adequate services already in the new premises or at very least there is the capability of adding required services when needed. A Quick example of this is a company who moved their offices from the city to beautiful offices in the countryside, only to discover they could not receive the required broadband connectivity that was so essential to their business. After struggling for a few months they decided they had no other alternative but to move again. They now take forward planning very serious!

4, Do I really need to move?
Sounds a pretty stupid thing to say, but the truth of the matter is..... it isn't! Most companies move for all the right reasons, the most common reason being is they have out-grown their existing premises. There are companies however who move to bigger fancier offices with larger overheads for no other reason than to satisfy their egos! Sure who does not want to work in a fabulous premises, but if your incoming revenue does not justify your outgoing costs..... the company's life span is limited.
